The good news: very little prep
One of the quiet advantages of EMSculpt NEO is how little you have to do to get ready. There's no fasting, no numbing cream, no pre-medication, and no bloodwork. You don't need to shave the area or apply anything to your skin. Compared to almost any medical aesthetic procedure, the preparation for EMSculpt NEO is minimal — which is part of why patients fit it into a lunch break. Still, a handful of small choices make the session more comfortable and let the treatment work at its best.
Hydrate well the day before and of
The single most useful thing you can do before EMSculpt NEO is drink water. Well-hydrated muscle contracts more comfortably and tolerates the HIFEM intensity better, and good hydration supports the lymphatic clearance of the fat cells the radiofrequency destroys. Aim to be genuinely hydrated in the day leading up to your session, not just a glass of water in the waiting room. It's a small thing that makes the contractions feel smoother and helps your body process the results afterward.
Eat a light meal beforehand
Don't arrive for EMSculpt NEO on a completely empty stomach, and don't arrive stuffed. A light meal a couple of hours before is ideal — enough that the intense muscle contractions don't leave you lightheaded, but not so much that lying down with an applicator strapped across a full abdomen is uncomfortable. Because the treatment fatigues muscle much like a hard workout, going in fueled but not heavy is the same common sense you'd apply before the gym.
What to wear and bring
Wear something comfortable and easy to adjust around the treatment area — you'll stay mostly clothed, but the area being treated needs to be accessible for the applicator. Skip belts, shapewear, or anything tight over the target zone. Leave metal jewelry and accessories off the treatment area since the device uses electromagnetic energy. There's nothing else to bring; many patients simply relax, scroll their phone, or close their eyes during the 30 minutes.
A note on the same-day workout
If you're treating glutes or thighs, avoid a heavy lower-body lifting session the same morning, and likewise skip a brutal core workout right before treating abs. The goal is to let EMSculpt NEO do the intense work rather than arriving with the muscle already pre-fatigued. Light activity earlier in the day is completely fine. Afterward, the treated muscle will feel worked — plan your day so you're not doing max-effort lifting on that same muscle group immediately after.
Come with your questions
The most valuable preparation for a first EMSculpt NEO session isn't physical — it's knowing what you want to ask. Come ready to discuss your goal for the area, any medical history that matters (EMSculpt NEO isn't appropriate with certain implants or during pregnancy), and what realistic results look like for your body. At Bromberg Wellness that conversation happens with a physician before the device ever turns on, so your first session starts from a plan built around you rather than a generic protocol.
